HAYLAAAAAAAAVET!!!

I know it's not much of a review...but really nothing would surpass the fact that this movie was beautifully done. It might seem slow-paced to those who live for speed (Ria and I thought it was more than 2 hours long, but it was about an hour and a half)...but it fits well into the story and how it unravels.

Watching the movie left me and Ria craving to travel to Cuyo.

And also for some lychee and cashew brittle :D

An excerpt from Clickthecity.com:
"Set in two contrasting environments that underline the same premise of imprisonment, Selda tells the story of Rommel, a young man who accidentally kills a boy, resulting in his incarceration. Inside the jail, he befriends another inmate, Esteban, who becomes his rock and protector. Seven years later, Rommel is living in the province as a farmer together with Sita, his wife. Esteban tracks down Rommel in hopes of renewing a brewing love affair. Rommel and Sita welcome Esteban into their lives until their intimacy crosses borderlines and results in the undeniable scourge of self-discovery."

Directed by Paolo Villaluna and Ellen Ramos

The special screening was held last December 23 at Robinson Galleria's IndieSine (regular screening is set tentatively for February 2008)...and I would have gotten a really cool souvenir of a ticket, only the guards at the entrance took everything...bummer

I've known about the film ever since shooting started, since my friend Abe was a camera caretaker for his friend's camera that was borrowed for the film, and I basically know some trivial stuff that went on and the pranks they did on Sid Lucero and the other actors (but mainly on Sid, I don't know why) and some other funny things that went on during the filming.

Basically I don't want to make kwento because some people out there might want to watch it, but me and my friends have dubbed it "Brookside Mountain" (since the latter parts were shot near Brookside Village in Cainta)...but take to heart, and I quote director Paolo Villaluna, okay sort of quote since I don't remember verbatim... "Minsan masarap manood ng pelikulang pag-iisipin ka"...
And I for one had to really think on what transpired on some scenes.

And from Michael de Mesa's character, Warden Ramos... "Wala ka sa impiyerno pero lahat ng demonyo nandito" WASAK!!!!

The last book of the series...I thought at first the pacing was really slow...but then I understood it was to build up the tension (and what with me being awake 24 hrs already...you can imagine the tension!!!Not to mention the white spots swimming in my eyes for lack of sleep)... some parts made me go "Wha?!" some go "Whoa! I never would have thought!" and towards the end made me cry because of those who had to die...but no worries...last chapter was worth every second staying up 24 hrs for!!!!!!!!

I bought it yesterday (May 28) at Powerbooks Megamall...Bob Ong's latest work and his first dabble into straight forward serious fiction...A novellata about 4 friends, of different ages and background brought together by their love of meth and their daily struggle to earn money enough to score...It's a far cry from the comedic/cynic works he has done but in my opinion still far from a Nick Joaquin or F.Sionil Jose...but heck! He is his own genre anyways...The story itself is something we all know and one that we might have seen or experienced first hand, which makes it a bit of a cliche, that of a loved one in the grasp of addiction, given the Bob Ong flavor. Try it if you're brave enough to let go of ABNKKBSNPLAko?

WARNING: SPOILERS UP AHEAD!!!

NOTE: Please read with a faux Scottish accent ala Shrek, para masaya!

Great movie! If your infantile like me…you will enjoy this third installment of Shrek’s life…never a dull moment and great lessons to teach the kids…(Too bad though that Cameron and Justin have broken up…when Shrek 2 was being made, they were not an item yet). Not in the mood to really write down the synopsis...but here's a list...

Best line and background music....
...Merlin playing "That's What Friends Are For" before Shrek and Artie can talk, so Shrek told him to can it...
Artie: My dad left me and I’ve never heard from him since
Shrek: My dad tried to EAT ME!

---Hahahahaha….laugh trip that one…

Funniest scene:
Puss trapped in Donkey’s body trying to do the cute kitty cat look

---Hahahahaha…fugly shit!!! Made me want to kill Puss/Donkey as well!

Best kick ass scene:
The princesses doing away with the guards, especially Snow White’s attack on the trees

---they were doing Charlie’s Angels poses…hahaha

Random...
Donkey’s mutant babies are awfully cute if a bit disturbing and really hard to explain if your kids are inquisitive and if by the age of 6 don’t know yet a thing about the birds and the bees…hahahaha…. and the death scene of the Frog King was so slapstick, Pinoy-style reminiscent of Panchito, Chiquito and Dolphy…which is sort of a new genre for the American viewers, that it will work, hey it works for me still! Pinocchio's quirky way of not lying was so funny that it drove one of the 3 Little Pigs insane!

I wish there would be a part 4…see how the triplets turn out and Puss settling down with his own kittens to handle!

I seriously rooted for Oscar to win...because Mayweather was too much a braggart...good thing I didn't bet with anyone...hehehe...a bonus was the fact that Leonardo DiCaprio was watching the fight and he gets shown most of the time...harharhar

There are talks of a rematch...but seriously...I'm not sure Oscar can win...

But what's good about this fight were the undercards...two Filipino boxers won! yey! Too bad AJ Banal's fight wasn't shown....
